Thrush Treatment - What Really Works
No one likes to have to start thrush treatment but thrush is a fairly common infection. When Candida fungus starts to overgrow and your immune system and good bacteria fail to keep it under control, a Candida yeast infection is the result.
There are certain symptoms to look out for when you suspect a yeast infection which can confirm if you need to treat the Candida or not. Whilst the treatment options for oral thrush are few and far between, the ones that are available are extremely effective.
The most common method of thrush treatment
Anti-fungal medication is often the most common method of thrush treatment. This is usually prescribed from the doctor and will come as either a cream or tablets. The severity of your yeast infection and your past history will determine which form of medication the doctor will prescribe.
Oral thrush is extremely common in babies and if your baby gets a yeast infection, the doctor will almost always prescribe a cream. Babies and young children usually have trouble swallowing a tablet and therefore cream is the most effective and safe method of thrush treatment. The thrush will usually clear within two weeks with this type of cream. More severe cases may require a stronger course of medication and take a while longer to clear.
Will I require multiple thrush treatment applications?
It is not unusual to suffer repeated episodes of infection often requiring several courses of thrush treatment. The treatment must be applied for twice as long as the symptoms are present. Stopping too soon may result in frequent reoccurrences. For example, if your symptoms last for seven days, you should continue to treat the symptoms for fourteen days. For stubborn yeast infections the patient may have to take both tablets and cream. It’s also a good idea to look at natural thrush treatment which often involves changing the balance of yeast through diet and lifestyle. Natural yeast infection treatment is extremely effective at permanently eradicating Candida infections permanently. Click here to find out more.
Strong mouth washes and sprays can destroy the ‘good’ bacteria in the mouth and it is a good idea to avoid these products if you experience an infection. Anybody who experiences repeated infections requiring thrush treatment should visit their doctor to discuss the different medication options available.
